Atlantic Festival 2027: June fireworks over Funchal bay

The Atlantic Festival, the Festival do Atlântico, fills June evenings in Funchal with music and lights. Its highlight is an international fireworks competition: every Saturday night a different company lights up the bay.

Dates for 2027

• Festival period: 4 to 27 June 2027
• Fireworks: Saturdays 5, 12, 19 and 26 June 2027, late evening

What happens

• Fireworks contest: pyrotechnic companies compete with shows fired from the harbour area, timed to music.
• Concerts and street performances in the city centre during the month, many of them free.

Where to watch the fireworks

• The seafront, from the marina to the Pontinha pier: close to the action and lively.
• The hills above the city, for the full view of the bay.
• Restaurant terraces with a view of the harbour; book ahead on Saturdays.

Tips
